Current Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin thinks there should also be a similar competition among the top senior golfers in the world.

American Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin believes that a similar competition for the senior players would be a fantastic idea that would go down well with golf fans across the world.

The idea has been muted in the build up to current Ryder Cup later this year and Pavin believes that although there will only ever be “one Ryder Cup” when it comes to serious Ryder Cup betting, but it would be a lot of fun for the seniors to have a similar event.

“A lot of people would be interested in watching and a lot of players would be interested in playing.

“It would probably have a different feel but it would be very competitive – players would want to win just as bad.”

Pavin isn’t the only person who thinks it will work either. Online betting pundits note how beaten 2006 US captain Tom Lehmann is heavily in favor of a competition for the older players.

“You would think there would be a way to make the whole Ryder Cup experience that much better by including something for the former greats,”

Would bringing together great senior players like Tom Watson and Bernhard Langer provide the same energy and interest as the current Ryder Cup?

“People would love to watch Tom Watson tee it up in a singles match against Sandy Lyle or Bernhard Langer. That would be really fun for the fans to see.

“If it was part of the lead up to the actual Ryder Cup it would be a lot of fun. It would be competitive. It would be somewhat inspirational.”

Whether such an event will happen is anyone’s guess, but nobody can deny the fact that it would be quite a spectacle.
