So, the Favre talk starts again…

He is reportedly said to retire… again. If he really does retire from the sport, he would retire with the most wins (181) and touchdowns (497) of any quarterback. He also holds the record for most consecutive starts, of course. Brett has started every game since September 27th, 1992. That’s right… 285 consecutive starts. The closest person to him in that category is Peyton Manning. Manning has 192 consecutive starts throughout his career with the Colts.

But you all know Brett Favre’s legacy. I don’t need to talk about that. I’m asking if this will be the last time he will retire… When Coach Childress was asked about the situation he said that he had talked to Favre in the last 24 hours and was unaware of the reports. No one has confirmed the truth of the reports, but league sources told ESPN NFL Insider, Adam Schefter, that Favre has sent text messages to teammates saying, “This is it.”

More is expected to come out later Tuesday, but right now, I have my doubts. We all know that a person can change their mind in an instant, and that nothing is completely final when it comes to Brett Favre retiring. Last year Favre told the Vikings that he would not play, and then joined the team on August 18th after their first preseason game. Today is August 3rd, which only means that Brett has more time to think about his decision. Soon enough Favre has to retire. This could be the year he does, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to come back and play another year. We don’t truly know what Brett is thinking. Neither do the Vikings. Coach Childress said, “I’ve got to hear it from the horse’s mouth.”

When asked about the reports of Favre’s retirement, Jared Allen said, “I love Brett and he reserves the right to do what he wants to do. We obviously love him as a teammate. We’d like to have him back. But until it’s official, I’ll believe it when I see it.” That is how I feel too. I’ll believe it when it’s official.

If this were the year that Brett were to retire, Coach Brad Childress said that the Vikings were ready. But the Vikings won’t be able to be the same team without him, will they? “The same plays are being installed whether [Favre] was here or the guys that are here are here,” Childress said.

My conclusion is, Brett has more time. I don’t think we will find out anything new for a while. The fact that nothing has been confirmed tells me that these reports may not be true. If he told the Vikings about his retirement, then don’t you think the coach and teammates would confirm that he did? Once again, I’ll believe it when its official.
