10 Great Moments in MLB All-Star Game History

With the Major League Baseball All-Star Game one week away, it’s time to take a look back at some great moments from All-Star Games past.

Here now, are the 10 Greatest MLB All-Star Game Moments.

10. 1933
It was only fitting that the first home run in an All-Star game is hit by Babe Ruth.

Ruth’s blast comes off Cardinals pitcher Bill Hallahan in the bottom of the third to give the American League a 4-2 in the inaugural All-Star game.

9. 1983
Fifty years later in the same ballpark, the first grand slam is hit as Angels center fielder Fred Lynn sends Atlee Hammaker’s 2-2 pitch over the wall.
It is still the only time a Grand Slam has been hit in the All-Star Game.

8. 1955
The National League pulls off the greatest comeback in All-Star Game history as they overcome a five-run deficit to pull out a victory in extra innings.

Trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the 7th inning, the NL scores two runs in the inning, then score three runs in the eighth to tie the game, and then win the game in 12th when Stan Musial hits a solo home run.

7. 2001
In his final All-Star game, Cal Ripken Jr. plays shortstop for the first inning at the instance of starting shortstop Alex .

Rodriguez, then hits a solo home run in the third inning to lead the AL to a 4-1 victory as Ripken is named the game’s MVP.

6. 2008
Twins first baseman Justin Morneau ends the longest game in All-Star game history when he scores the winning run on a sacrifice fly from Rangers shortstop Michael Young in the bottom of the 15th inning to give the AL a 4-3 victory.

The game ends at 1:38 a.m., four hours and 50 minutes after the first pitch of the game.

5. 1999
Following a memorable pre-game ceremonies involving legend Ted Williams, Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez strikes out five of the six batters he faces in two innings of work to be named the game’s MVP in the AL’s 4-1 victory.

4. 1941
Ted Williams hits the first walk-off home run in All-Star game history as his three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth gives the AL a 7-5 victory.

3. 1971
Six players who would end up in the Hall-of-Fame hit home runs in this All-Star Game, but the most famous homer is by A’s outfielder Reggie Jackson, whose two-run home run in the third inning bounces off a transformer on top of the right field bleachers of Tiger Stadium, an estimated 520 feet from home plate, as the AL would go on to win the game 6-4.

2. 1934

After allowing the first two batters of the game to get on base, Giants pitcher Carl Hubbell gets out of the jam by striking out Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Jimmie Foxx to get out of the inning.

In the very next inning, Hubbell strikes out the first two batters, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin, for a record five strikeouts in a row.

All five batters that Hubbell struck out, would end up in the Hall-of-Fame as well as Hubbell.

1.1970
Pete Rose scores the game-winning run in the bottom of the twelfth when he barrels over Indians catcher Ray Fosse on a throw from centerfielder Amos Otis following a base hit by the Cubs’ Jim Hickman for a 5-4 National League victory.
