A Look At Sports In 2020 And What’s To Come

Posted on July 02, 2020 by Alina Jovia

There is simply no denying that 2019 was an exceptional year for sports and sports betting. Heck, this is something that you could say pretty much every year. It seems like the bar only continues to rise every year. That being said, 2020 promises new experiences with many upcoming major events and tournaments. Even with the COVID-19 virus out there looming, there are still some great events on the ticket and many past events that fans can reminisce about.

If you are a betting person, you can take a look at some of the best odds here.

Take a look back at what the New year has brought fans so far and what it still has to offer going forward.

The Return Of The Notorious

The start of the year had high hopes, as McGregor, a born fighter, was slated to get back in the octagon in the first month of the year. He didn’t officially throw a single punch in the octagon in 2019, and it was certainly a poor year without him. 2020 immediately promised to change that as they had him scheduled against Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone at the start of the year. This match held for high hopes given the fact that boy men were not afraid to stand and trade. And, the fight as UFC 246 wasn’t a bad one for as long as it lasted. It would be safe to say that this fight lived up to the hype and made a promising start for the year in sports.

Pakistan Super League

Most people are familiar with the Pakistan Super League as it has grown to become an annual competition. However, the 2020 edition was set to be different, as it was slated to take place in Pakistan for the first time ever. The matches were set to take place in places outside Karachi and Lahore, which means the whole country would have access to the spectacle. The event did get off to a promising start but was unfortunately shut down due to the COVID-19 virus in March of 2020. The league was looking at whether to declare the winner of the tournament based on the current standings, but as of right now, they have decided to wait until later dates for the matches to resume.

Wilder VS Fury II

When Wilder and Fury met back in December 2018, it was hard for anyone to deny they put on a show for the ages. Even if you weren’t a major boxing fan, you had to admire and respect what the two did in the ring. It has everything tha fans desired, the sweet science, a devastating knockdown, a resurrection, and a decision that few saw coming. Wilder is known as an American knockout artist and Tyson Fury is known as the British boxing genius, but when the undefeated couple meets again in Las Vegas for the WBC titles, there can and will only be one winner. The second match certainly stood up to its name and anticipation. Fury put on a performance that would forever cement his as one of the best boxing comeback stories ever. And, this is not to take anything away from Wilder because it takes two to put on a really exciting fight.

European Championship 2020

The European Championships are not only going to be different this year, but they could start an entirely new tradition with the tournament. The 2020 UEFA Fifa World Cup isn’t going to be hosted by any single nation, but it is going to be hosted by several countries. That’s right the games and events will now take place through several countries rather than in just one nation. Fans are certainly looking forward to Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portugal team, but there is a whole slew of other storylines with promises to be barn burners as well. The tournament was set to be held in 12 different cities in 12 UEFA countries during the dates of June 12th through July 12th. Unfortunately, this did not happen because of the COVID-19 virus. The entire event was pushed back a year and is proposed to take place from June 11th to July 11th, 2021.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Perhaps, it is the 2020 Olympics that are set to be the biggest event of 2020. And, this year they are set to be held in the exciting and innovative Tokyo. This will be the second time that the area will host the Summer Olympics and the fourth time that they’ve been in Japan. The games really set the stage for new and innovative, as they had added additional sports including baseball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing. Unfortunately, this event was postponed as well and is set to resume on July 23rd the next year.
