Dominican Web Site Has Complete “Steroid List”; Is It Real or a Hoax?
To be honest, I’m not very sure how legit this is or who this person’s source is, but the Spanish language web site DominicanosHOY.com has had on its site since late June an article that includes a list of 103 major league baseball players that are supposedly names on the infamous “Steroid List”
Personally I hope it is the list and we can finally know the players in the “steroid era” that have tested positive in the past. This would end all the stupid steroid speculation on the list and end all of the he said/she said rumors of who is on the list and who isn’t.
Most of this list doesn’t really surprise me and since it is a list out of the Dominican Republic (where many of the known steroids users are from) I would not be surprised at all if this list was accurate.
However, since it has been in circulation with all 103 names (the only complete list that I have heard of) for some time without receiving much publicity in the United States, it is hard to tell if it hasn’t been reported on because it is believed to be inaccurate or if it just has not been seen by the main stream media.
Baseball has taken quite a hit that keeps on coming back up due to more and more names being released through reputable American media sources.
In my opinion we need to release this list for all to see so that this trend doesn’t continue as every time it does it hurts the game. I’m not sure what the penalty would be for Major League Baseball if they released the list but in the agreement players that tested positive can’t be punished games or anything for their inclusion on the list.
The article and complete list can be found HERE.
Here is a very rough English translation of the article using Babel Fish:
“True wasps’s nest has risen in Republic Dominican by list presented/displayed by vestibule Rotoinfo.com, in that they appear the names of the players that presumably gave positives in tested by the Great Leagues in 2003, to detect the steroid use in the baseball. Of that list of 103 positives only the names of two were developing: Alex Rodriguez and Sammy Sosa, but now is offered completes, with the presumed positives.
On the telephones of the sport writing of DominicanosHoy.com hundreds of calls of readers interested in knowing the list have been received. Rotoinfo.com is a publication in English, that when publishing the list clarifies that it is unofficial. The publication of the list is a hit to Dominicans, since in it appears 22 of its compatriots, some of them true idols of the fanatics. The names that have hit more of the new ones mentioned are those of David Ortiz and Pedro Martinez, mainly, because they have lashed out at the steroid use in the baseball. Ortiz had said that those that consume steroids must be sanctioned of for life, whereas hardly days ago Pedro sent a challenge to that they published the complete list .”
Sports Then and Now Editors Note: As emphasized in the story by Mike Brangwynne, the validity of this list is as of now unconfirmed and this article has been in cirulation in Spanish for over two months. This story is merely alerting fans to the existence of this article and its list and then provides the author’s personal opinion (which has been shared in previous articles by other members of the Sports Then and Now writing staff) that whether this list is accurate or not, it is time for baseball to publish the accurate list in order to avoid further embarrassment and to move on.

Blame Selig. I think the worst of it all is that these small market teams need to make better decisions about drafting their players. If your a small market team- with high caliber, high paid draft picks and their not producing eg. tampa bay rays, then you got to drop them.__For the Royals & Pirates horrible, awful, trades and drafts have left there teams with consistent losing records every year.__REMEMBER THERE IS NO EXCUSE IF YOUR A SMALL MARKET TEAM WITH A LOW PAYROLL BECAUSE IF THE TWINS (I KNOW EVERBODY IS SICK OF HEARING THIS BUT THE TWINS EVERY Year ARE CONTENDERS, ALSO THE RAYS) NO MORE EXCUSES SMALL MARKET TEAMS.
PIRATES- GET SOME PITCHING AND STOP TRADING AWAY ALL
YOUR PLAYERS.
ROYALS- STOP DRAFTING SCHMUCKS THAT CAN ONLY HIT DOUBLES AND CAN'T HIT THE BALL OVER THAT GINORMOUS OUTFIELD AT KAUFFMAN STADIUAM, STOP PICKING UP HASBENDS LIKE CRUZ, FARNSWORTH.
NATIONALS- YOUR NOT A SMALL MARKET TEAM SO STOP ACTING LIKE ONE AND OPEN UP YOUR CHECK BOOKS.
Also I hope Steve Bartman & Jeffrey Maier are happy for ruining their teams dreams.
It is my pleasure to be a merber in your biog, and thank you to give me a chance to share the comment ,it is so funny that I have not miss it.I totally like the useful info shared in the article.Great post, keep it up!thank you so much!I will tell my friends and families to support your biog!
Jason,
I agree with you that teams like the Twins have proven that small market teams can win, but I would argue that their margin for error is much smaller than that of teams with bigger payrolls.
The Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and others with higher payrolls make bad decisions all the time when signing free agents, selecting draft picks and making trades. However, they have enough resources that they can quickly overcome those bad decisions by investing more money in the next player.
Carl Pavano and Jarrett Wright don't work out, that's okay, we'll just re-sign Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite and then sign CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett. Jason Giambi doesn't cut it anymore, we'll just get Mark Teixeira. Heck, the Yankees once paid millions to a first pick in the draft that never made it to the majors.
I'm not defending some of the decisions that some of the small market teams have made regarding personnel, but unlike some of the big dollar teams, they can't just reload their major league roster every season.
Now, I will say I think what Pittsburgh has done in jettisoning most of their talent once they start earning money (much like the Marlins have done as well) is wrong.
I have been a proponent for many years of baseball having both a minimum and maximum salary cap. I think if they forced every team to spend a certain amount of money, but then also kept the Yankees from out-spending everyone every single year, it would bring back some real competitive balance to the game.
Would you also agree to stop major college teams to stop spending money on athletics and paying coaches more than professors so that competitive balance could be restored? Most people from places other than the northeast and California whine about rich owners spending their own money on professional teams, but brag about their states 24-2 college bball and undefeated college football teams, paid for with tax dollars and featuring non-student athletes. Why do you suppose that is?
