6 Ways To Entertain Yourself When You’re Feeling Bored

There may be moments when you find yourself sitting around with a little extra free time on your hands. You may not be feeling social but also don’t want to end up getting lost in your own thoughts and twiddling your thumbs. 

Boredom can lead to feelings of isolation and depression. Therefore, it’s important and healthy to find ways to keep yourself engaged in life and have some fun when you get the chance. Here you can review six ways to entertain yourself when you’re feeling bored. 

  1. Experiment with A New Recipe

You may want to consider applying your creativity and testing out your cooking skills if you’re feeling bored. Challenge yourself to make a new recipe that sounds good and you want to try. Give yourself plenty of time to prepare the meal and go slow so you can execute the recipe properly and have a positive outcome. It will be rewarding to prepare your own food and be able to sit down to a home-cooked meal. Another idea, if you have a sweet tooth, is to take on a baking challenge where you make a mix of delicious and tasty treats. You can always bake extra and share them with friends, family, or co-workers. 

  1. Hop Online

All you need to entertain yourself when you’re feeling bored is a phone or laptop and an Internet connection. You can get comfy on the couch and choose to hop online when you want to find something exciting to do or watch. For example, you can look up funny videos, scroll on social media, or play some slots. If you’re up for the challenge and want to use your brain you can also teach yourself a new skill or language or take an online course in a particular subject matter. If you’re in the mood to connect with loved ones then call up someone who you care about on video chat and have a conversation. 

  1. Stream Movies & TV Shows 

Another way to entertain yourself when you’re feeling bored is to stream movies and TV shows. Either you can put on some of your favourite movies and shows or choose something brand-new that you’ve never seen before. You may want to pick something based on what mood you’re in and whether you want to laugh or cry. You may find it helpful to look up reviews and recommendations from other viewers to get a better idea of what’s popular and will be worth your time. Spend the day in your comfortable clothing curled up on the couch and make a tasty snack such as popcorn to enjoy as you watch. 

  1. Read A Book

Reading is a great way to pass the time. Consider getting lost in a good book when you’re feeling bored and want to keep yourself entertained. Reading books can offer you many benefits such as expanding your vocabulary, enhancing your concentration, and providing you with some entertainment. There are many kinds of books out there to choose from depending on what you’re interested in reading more about. You may find it relaxing to set up a reading nook in your home that you can retreat to when you want to read without any distractions. Ideally, you’ll want to choose a spot near the window that gets some natural light. Include plenty of pillows and blankets, add some greenery with plants, and have a lamp you can turn on in the evening hours. 

  1. Go for A Walk or Bike Ride in Nature

Sometimes all you need to reset and reduce stress is some fresh air. Whenever you’re sitting around home feeling bored you can choose to put on your shoes and go for a walk in nature or take a bike ride.  Nature has many healing properties and can quickly put you at ease. Try out a new trail in your area and bring your phone with you so you can listen to guided meditations as you stroll. Be present in the moment and enjoy all the beautiful sights and smells that surround you while outdoors.

  1. Listen to Music

If you’re feeling bored and want to entertain yourself then consider listening to music. You can choose something appropriate based on your mood and what you’re doing at the time. For example, if you’re lifting weights at home or cleaning then you may want something more upbeat. On the other hand, if you’re taking a bath or doing yoga then you may want something soothing and calming to put on in the background. Listening to music has been known to effectively reduce stress, boost your mood, and help you feel more positive overall.
