How Professional Athletes Recover After Practice and Competition

Posted on January 29, 2019 by Jessica Peters

training campThe world’s elite athletes are always looking to give themselves an advantage over their opponents, regardless of the sport and the team/individual they are competing against. One crucial way of achieving that is to train hard, and compete even harder. Unfortunately for some athletes, however, all they do succumb to injury or get too tired to train. This means less training and less chance of competing at the highest levels, due to the stiff competition they are up against. What do some of the world’s leading athletes do to counteract this issue and how do they stay fit and healthy through their training and competitions?

Massage Therapy

Some athletes take to the table to ensure they get some quality time for muscle and mental relaxation. Massages encourage the muscles to breath and blood to recirculate. Training/competing hard means muscle tissues become extremely stiff and aren’t able to circulate blood as they would normally. However, a simple massage could be all it takes to get an athlete back in training sooner rather than later, which always gives them a competitive edge.

Nutritional Protein Shakes

There are many nutritional protein powders available on the market to athletes who are looking for quick muscle repair and the chance to get back to the gym quickly. There are many powders that can be mixed with fruit and veg to give athletes the nutritional value they seek, and the chance to repair their muscles at a quicker rate. Shakes come with different flavors and benefits to suit a variety of athletes, so it’s better to do your research before you go out and buy a big pot, as it’s generally quite expensive.

CBD Oil

CBD was, at one point, deemed an illegal substance for athletes to consume. If they were found to have any traces of it in their body, they would be banned from their sport for a period of time and possibly be given a fine. However, in 2018, sporting associations like WADA (Olympics) removed such substances from the list, which gave top athletes the chance to heal more quickly after training/competing. Although the substance is still banned in many sports, it’s looking more likely that it will eventually be a common substance for all athletes to consume. Most athletes generally start buying in bulk to keep their costs down, and so can you. Use CBD oil to reduce muscle inflammation and recover in record time. It’s effective and 100% safe.

Infrared Saunas

Many top athletes have one of these at home. However, gaining access to one isn’t at all hard for those with a local leisure center. These handy rooms will help you relieve stress but also relax your muscle so the blood can quickly circulate and help you feel more relaxed. Most basic saunas take advantage of water to produce steam to help rejuvenate the body, but the infrared lighting works at a much quicker rate and can warm muscle tissues quicker. Saunas will also help with muscle growth and recovery after an injury.

In conclusion, top athletes in sports will always look at ways to help reduce the time it takes to heal after hard training sessions, just so they can keep doing it on a regular basis to hopefully gain a competitive edge over their rivals. If you are an athlete looking to get better and better in the sport you serve, it could be time to try out some of the above ways to see what works better for you and your training regime – they could help you reach the top level of your sport rather than remaining at the bottom.
