5 Sports That Improve Hand-Eye Coordination

Posted on July 24, 2020 by Brooke Chaplan

Your hand-eye coordination is an asset. Although it’s commonly associated with sports, there are benefits to hand-eye coordination that can be realized off the field. That said, sports can be among the best ways to get yours up to snuff. These five sports can greatly increase your hand-eye coordination.

Tennis

With tennis, it’s all on you to watch the ball and make sure you’re timing things just right. Make your swing too early or too late and lose a point. When you have proper control of your racket and keep your eyes focused, you can keep the ball in play for a very long time.

Basketball

The difference between sinking a basket and missing it can come down to being off by even a fraction of an inch. Professional players make it look easy, but they have become seasoned professionals through hours of practice that lets them figure out the exact right angle for getting the ball through the hoop. Start off by going to your local gym and working on your fundamentals, such as your aim and follow-through. As time goes on, you should have a much better percentage of baskets made.

Hunting

You might not immediately think of hunting when it comes to improving hand-eye coordination, but you can’t expect to be a successful hunter unless you know how to control your weaponry. Whether you’re using hunting rifles or a bow and arrow, you need to know how to focus on your target and how to time your release exactly right. You’re not going to impress anybody by trying to be overly flashy when you’re just getting started.

Baseball

The crack of a bat as it hits a ball for a home run is satisfying to hear and even more satisfying to cause. Even the most impressive sluggers know about the need for proper timing and hand-eye coordination. It also matters if you’re out in the field, as you need to be able to catch the balls with ease. Head down to a batting cage and play catch with your friends to see just how much work your hand-eye coordination needs.

Hockey

If you want to see amazing hand-eye coordination, go to a hockey game. Not only do the players need to be able to control their sticks and the puck while wearing plenty of equipment, but they’re doing so on ice. All members of a hockey team need to have their hand-eye coordination in check. This is especially true for goalies, as their precision can save the game for their teams.

Star athletes are able to get their hands and eyes in such sync that they can seem permanently fused. The Olympics might not be in your future, but you can make your hand-eye coordination so much better with sports. By practicing these sports, you’ll be able to give yourself far-more poise and far-better results in other aspects of life.
