  1. Dean says:

I grew up a huge fan of the Tom Landry Cowboys, but can't help but feel they are too high on the list. They have not been significant for the last 20 years, while the Bears and Giants have each had periods of being at or near the top of the league. When you add to that that Dallas didn't start playing until 1960 and doesn't have the same historical greatness as the Bears or Giants, I just think they should be behind those two franchises.

If the Bears had more than one Super Bowl victory in the last 45 years, I would probably have them ranked second ahead of the Steelers. I also think you could make a case for the 49ers ahead of Dallas, though the Cowboys probably deserve the edge because they have appeared in more Super Bowls.

The Sports Then and Now Vintage Athlete of the Month is one of the most underappreciated wide receivers in NFL history, despite boasting a career that spanned 16 seasons and saw him excel as one of the league’s premier deep threats. Standing at 5’10” and weighing 175 pounds, he defied expectations of size to become a dominant force on the field. Over the course of his illustrious career (1968–1983), Jackson totaled 10,372 receiving yards and 76 touchdowns, placing him among the top receivers of his time.
