Daniela Placed on Injured Reserve List
St. Louis Athletica announced this morning that Brazilian midfielder Daniela has been placed on the 60-day injured reserve list.
Recovering from knee surgery, she will return to action in June.
On May 3, 2009, she suffered a season-ending knee injury in a game against the Washington Freedom. Daniela’s collision with Washington’s Abby Wambach resulted in a cracked tibia and two torn ligaments in her knee.
Daniela recorded the first goal in St. Louis’s history, in the same game in which she was injured. She also scored off a 30-yard strike for a second goal of the game before suffering her injury late in the second half.
Resigned by St. Louis in early March, Daniela joins injured forward Kristina Larsen on the reserve list. Larsen, a UCLA graduate, is recovering from a fractured foot.
St. Louis opens their season against FC Gold Pride on Sunday, April 11 at the Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park. Game time is 3:00 and tickets can be obtained by calling 1-888-STL-GOAL.
