Singapore is a city which is famous for a lot of things. These range from the architecture to the amazing way the city is planned and everything else in between. But what people don’t realize is that apart from the surroundings, there’s an amazing food culture which is hidden underneath as well. No, it’s not the usual commercial pizzas and burgers even though Singapore might look like any other big Western commercialized city from the outside. It has its own vibrant and unique food culture which surprises and impresses its tourists a lot. So let’s check out what you should definitely try out during your trip to Singapore.

Bak Kut Teh

This literally means pork bone tea. The Bak kut teh is a dish which is popular throughout Singaporean and Malaysia. This dish has Chinese origins and even though one might think that the pork gets cooked in tea, that’s not the case at all. Tea isn’t even there in the recipe. It could have gotten its name due to strong tea which was consumed all along with the pork soup. The basic recipe for this dish includes pork ribs boiled in water with garlic, white pepper, and salt. The boiling is done till the pork becomes tender and the flavour gets mingled in it to create the flavorful soup. The best way to eat, this is with a bowl of rice. If you want to enjoy this dish like a true local then have some side dishes like braised tofu and mustard greens. Of course, keep your Chinese tea handy as well to wash the grease down.

      After waiting for 45 years after his retirement, the Sports Then and Now Vintage Athlete of the Month is finally taking his rightful place as a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

      Before injuries cut short his Hall of Fame worthy career, Tony Oliva was one of the best hitters in baseball and combined with Hall of Famers Rod Carew and Harmen Killebrew to make the Minnesota Twins a perennial American League contender during the late 1960s.

      Discovered on the baseball fields of Cuba by a Minnesota Twin scout, Oliva came to the United States in 1961 and within three years the American League Rookie of the Year. There have been many great MLB players from Cuba, including a new generation of stars today, but it is hard to argue that there has been a better player from the island in MLB than Oliva.
