For those of us who can’t decide between our “mates” and our “mates” this Valentine’s Day, the creative minds at PUMA have come up with the perfect gift.

fletcher-948.ashxThough neither Tyra Banks nor Paulina Porizkova were likely within miles of the City of Brotherly Love last week, America’s Top Women’s Soccer players were busy modeling the hot new fashions of PUMA’s 2010 WPS uniform line.

PUMA, the founding sponsor of the WPS, unveiled the 2010 WPS home and away uniforms last week at the Trust Building in Philadelphia. The event, which was hosted by Los Angeles Sol goalkeeper and WPS All-Star Karina LeBlanc, included a high energy fashion show up the green turf runaway and featured the stars of the WPS, plus live break dancers, specialty cocktails and hors d’oeuvres catered by Steven Starr. WPS has unveiled their uniforms for 2010.

2010 is THE year for soccer. Last night in Philadelphia, PUMA and Women’s Professional Soccer unveiled the new 2010 WPS Home and Away Uniforms, including the official kit debut of the newest franchises, the Atlanta Beat and Philadelphia Independence.

Fusing fashion with sport, PUMA launched the newly-designed uniforms from the Power collection, keeping both style and performance in mind and giving players the courage to be awesome on and off the field.  The launch event, which took place hours after the 2010 WPS Draft, highlighted veteran players from the league’s nine teams and nine newly-drafted professional players who proudly wore their team colors for the first time.       The Sports Then and Now Vintage Athlete of the Month is the only football player ever to capture college football’s top individual award twice.

      As a star running back for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Archie Griffin claimed the Heisman Trophy during his junior season in 1974 and then was able to repeat the honor the following season.

      Griffin joined the Buckeyes for the 1972 season, which happened to be the first in which freshmen were eligible to play varsity football, and made an immediate impact. After fumbling in his only carry of his first game, Griffin more than made up for it in his second game by rushing for 237 yards against North Carolina. By the end of the season, Griffin had rushed for 867 yards.
