We are all aware that exercise is essential in daily life. However, not all of us are aware of the seriousness of this exercise to a student. Our bodies as humans are designed to move and stay active at all times. When we do not do so, we develop health and mental problems because the biological functions and chemical reactions that should take place in the body stagnate.  Actually, for students, especially college students with stressful majors, sports and exercise, serve as one of the significant college hacks for better grades.  It keeps the body and mental health of a student on point enabling them to perform better in their studies

Why is good health important to a student?

Good health enables a student to perform the strenuous mental and physical activities that come with the school curriculum with ease. A healthy student can sleep better, meaning that he or she gets ample rest improving his or her overall wellness, making them feel more relaxed and readier to process all the knowledge being dissipated in the classroom.

How does a student achieve good health?

Aside from eating right and avoiding toxins and drugs like alcohol and nicotine, good health can only be achieved when one gets the right amount of exercise.

Benefits of Sports and exercise

There are many benefits of exercise and fitness to an individual, we cannot list them all, but a few of them are explained below.

1.      Better muscle strength

Most people associate improving muscle strength with weight lifting and bodybuilding. Improving muscle strength is as simple as staying active to keep joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles flexible. This allows a student to carry bag packs easily without straining and to move around comfortably while avoiding unnecessary injuries. When a student is accustomed, twill affects his or her participation and performance in school.

2.      Managing weight

One significant benefit of regular exercise is maintaining weight. In extreme cases, obese students fail to concentrate in class because of hunger and food cravings. Excessive weight comes with severe health risks like diabetes, pressure, and cardiovascular conditions. Hence, maintaining a healthy weight should be a priority to all people, not just students. To better understand the relationship between exercise and weight loss, you should understand the relationship between energy expenditure and body calories. When one increases his or her metabolic rate through training, their bodies burn more calories which helps them lose weight.

3.      Improvement of memory and mental health

Exercise increases the brain functions and helps improve memory and thinking capacity. Exercising increases the heart rate, which promotes blood and oxygen flow to the brain. It also stimulates the generation of hormones responsible for the growth of brain cells.

4.      Better sleep at night

Energy depletion during exercise stimulates your body to produce hormones that demand a recuperative energy process which can only occur during sleep. Exercise s known to be one of the main remedies used to treat people with insomnia. Improvement of sleep quality increases the productivity of students in class and other activities.

What is the adequate amount of exercise that one should get per day?

Doctors have it that people aged 19 to 64 should get regular exercise daily. A student should have a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise every week. Which means  20 minutes of exercise daily provided by a sporting activity of one’s choice can be enough to keep the health of a student at optimum levels.
