Posted on December 28, 2019 by Sujain Thomas

In Val d’Isère there are lots you can do apart from skiing to make the most of your holiday. Skiing is one of the best spots for snow, not only in Europe but also all over the world. Ideally, skiing is one of the essential that you should do in Val d’Isère.

This is because 60% of the spots are above 2,200 meters, making it all the more enjoyable.

Another interesting fact that makes skiing the favorite sport here is that the top height of the glacier is 3,456 meters.

This means that when you visit here, you will not have to worry about the availability of snow cover.

Availability of snow

Snow is available for over six months, making this place one of the most significant spots and the most favored destination for skiing in Europe, whether you visit in the last week of November or early in May. There are several reasons for such massive availability of snow in this place, making Ski Bro Val d’Isere a favorite sport.

  • Snow here sweeps in from the Atlantic almost all through the year and
  • It also creeps up from the Mediterranean at irregular intervals in abundant quantities due to the natural phenomenon called the retour d’est.

Moreover, this site also has one of the biggest artificial snowmaking plants in Europe, Le Snow Factory. This plant has the capacity of filling an Olympic-sized swimming pool with snow in as little as thirty minutes or cover an entire mountainside with 50 cm thick snow in just under a week.

The area for skiing

The area for skiing here is one of the largest in the world. If you only consider the groomed regions, you will find an area of more than 300 km of pistes. In addition to that:

  • The linked area to it is Tignes, which is one of the largest in France. It is three times the area of Whistler in Canada.
  • There are also seven other different points of access from the mountains to the ski center.

Apart from the large area available for skiing, another reason that makes this such a popular destination is that you will not have to wait for a long time in the queue. The satellite villages such as the Val’s Le Fornet and La Daille are the leading cause of this. This means that you will have the maximum opportunity for skiing even in the busiest of weekends.

Novice friendly spot

This is the area that will even help the beginners to ski. A few years back, one of the central skiing areas in the summit of Solaise was reshaped. This has made it all the more user- friendly. This is the best spot for beginners as they can easily and quickly progress to those more intermediate terrains nearby. All they have to follow is the color-coding here because it can be different from the conventional color codes in other skiing destinations. Therefore, if you are looking for the right spot for skiing, visit Val d’Isère.
